we are in paris for 5 days.can we do Orsay Museum, Sainte Chapelle,Montparnasse and Fontainebleau in 1day?

we want to do Palace of Versailles with an evening show on the second day.Third day we want to do Louvre Museum . The remaining 2 days we want to do full day Mont Saint-Michel Abbey tour and Loire Valley Castles Day Trip: Chambord, Cheverny and Chenonceau .Is this too much to pack in ? what kind of passes should we buy for this kind of itinerary?

Five days in Paris and the itinerary you propose are impossible if you wish to see any of the places properly. So I will make you a respectful suggestion and itinerary.

Day 1: The Louvre and the surrounding area, such as the Jardin des Tuileries, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and maybe a 90 minute boat trip on the Seine.

Day 2: Visit Museé d’Orsay – you really need a morning. Then go onto visit Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame – some nice bistros and cafes for lunch close at hand. Finally move on through Jardin de Luxembourg to Tour Montparnasse.

Day.3: Spend the day at Château de Versailles. You really need that time if you are going to see the château, the gardens and ancillary buildings. The RER takes you to Versailles from Paris – 40 minutes. Also some nice places for lunch in the old quarter – make a day of it!!! Do not use Paris Vision, you can have a better day out organizing it yourself, it is so easy and you see a lot more.

Now come the difficult bit, deciding which is best as Mont St-Michel is 3½ hours by road west of Paris and the train connection is rubbish. Chambord, Cheverny and Chenonceau are 2½ hours south of Paris in the opposite direction. On that point one needs a full day to visit any one of those châteaux if you are to appreciate the ambience. Fontainebleau is in yet another direction 1 hour south east of Paris. So, my thought is to give you a short day and a long day:

Day 4: But you need to book in advance. Paris-Vision operates day tours to Mont-St-Michel or the Châteaux de La Loire. They cost around 170 Euros a person and you are out for around 14 hours. The tour of Mont-St-Michel includes a guided tour of the abbey and the “Châteaux Tour” includes guided visits to the three châteaux and lunch. The later can be rather rushed, your choice!!

Day 5: Have the morning wandering round Paris then take the afternoon excursion to Palais de Fontainebleau, again with Paris Vision. Departs at 1315, costs 65 Euros each and includes admission. Returns to Paris for around 1900 in time for a leisurely dinner beside the Seine..
